rto_manuscript Preliminary Toxicity Analysis of 3-D Conformal Radiation Therapy Versus IMRT on the High-dose Arm of the RTOG 0126 Prostate Cancer Trial
ROI funded an RTOG analysis of its data set 0126, Phase III randomized trial data, which examined patient outcomes from treatment for prostate cancer with IMRT vs. high dose 3-D CRT. Specific aims were to examine toxicity levels with each type of treatment for bladder, bowel and erectile function; quality of life (QOL) as reported by patients; and any correlations among dosage, toxicity, treatment plans and patient reported outcomes. The final results were presented at ASTRO’s Annual Meeting in October 2012. The complete analysis was published in December of 2013 in the International Journal of Radiation Oncology•Biology•Physics. Practice-Based Evidence to Evidence-Based Practice: Building the National Radiation Oncology Registry
An article on the National Radiation Oncology Registry (NROR) pilot was published in the May 2013 issue of the Journal of Oncology Practice. The paper describes the most significant accomplishments of the NROR to date including the finalization of a standardized set of data elements for the prostate pilot; the development of an information technology infrastructure to support the efficient collection, aggregation, and analysis of clinical data; and the establishment of a standardized set of radiation practice metrics.

National Radiation Oncology Research Needs Assessment: Executive Summary
As one of its first initiatives, the ROI’s Research Committee commissioned a comprehensive study to identify research priorities for the field of radiation oncology. ROI selected the Yale New Haven Health System Center for Healthcare Solutions (YNHHS-CHS) and Crescendo Consulting Group to conduct the ROI National Research Needs Assessment. This executive summary provides an overview of the assessment which was comprised of two research phases with an overall objective to better understand the gaps that currently exist in evidence and knowledge about the specialty. Phase 1 was completed in January 2011 and provided the basis for the Phase 2 research. Read the Executive Summary.


A Research Agenda for Radiation Oncology: Results of the Radiation Oncology Institute's Comprehensive Research Needs Assessment
The ROI commissioned an independent, comprehensive assessment of research needs for the advancement of radiation oncology care. The results of the research needs assessment were published in the October 1, 2012 issue of the International Journal of Radiation Oncology•Biology•Physics (Red Journal), the official clinical research journal of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO). Developing a national radiation oncology registry: From acorns to oaks
The Vision Paper for the National Radiation Oncology Registry (NROR) was published in the January 2012 issue of Practical Radiation Oncology (PRO), ASTRO's clinical practice journal. The paper outlines the purpose, scope and operation of the developing registry. An enormous undertaking with countless hours dedicated by recognized experts, the NROR promises to be the first registry of observational clinical data for the specialty. It has been ‘under construction’ by four committees that oversee and are developing the Registry’s data dictionary and database infrastructure. Read the full article.
