Letter from the President

Spring 2017

Kuban_208x215.jpgThe ROI recently reached a milestone in the return on our investment in research — more than $1 million in follow-on funding for new studies that are the direct result of the work we supported. ROI funding often serves to bridge the gap for innovative ideas that require additional development before they are eligible for more traditional and larger research funding streams. The success of our researchers in securing funding from the National Cancer Institute and other government sources is evidence that our awards are meeting an important need for the field of radiation oncology.

ROI’s latest award to Todd McNutt, PhD, is another example of how we try to leverage our research dollars and invest in projects that could transform practice but need additional support to realize their potential. We are proud to help advance the development of the Oncospace system. Dr. McNutt and his team are using this tool to mine the wealth of data and knowledge stored in clinical records to increase safety and quality in radiation oncology and improve outcomes for patients.

I invite you to read more about Dr. McNutt’s research using the Oncospace system as well the progress of some of our other researchers in this issue of The Visionary. All of it is made possible through the generosity of supporters like you. Thank you to the many donors who have supported and continue to support the ROI including those who made a gift at the end of 2016 or with their membership renewals. Please help us to continue to invest in research that is critical to the future of our profession.

We hope you like the new look of The Visionary, and we are excited to continue sharing news about ROI’s activities and research progress in this updated format.
